I co- hosted a Halloween party with my Brother in Law this year. He had the space at his house this year and earned free catering, so we thought it would be fun. This was my first Halloween party I have hosted ever. It was really fun. I was on a bit of a tight budget. Since the food was mostly taken care of, there was not a ton of other things that I needed to spend money on.
We had some fun games, including glow in the dark beer pong- which I don’t think anyone actually played with beer (https://www.pinterest.com/pin/525443481508385891/). Also we had giant Jenga and a fire pit outside. We kept most of the rooms dark (seems to be a good ambiance for Halloween) except the kitchen. We used glow sticks 12/ $1.00 to add light around the room. We also replaced our normal living room lights with black light bulbs.
I made super cute candy necklaces for favors, so everyone went home with candy (https://www.pinterest.com/pin/525443481508386136/). This seemed much more fun then the traditional candy bags. I also made some fun decorations made out of cans. This is such a fun idea and cost me nothing. We ate a lot of soup and beans the few weeks before. Then I used my acrylic paint and painted the main color- some took more coats then others. Then I used white paint for the eyes and black paint or sharpies for the eye balls. I made many of these and used them for décor around the house.
Almost all the décor, candy and tableware I got was from the Dollar Tree, they have some amazing deals. Most of the party decorations I either made, borrowed or bought for super cheap. Remember I was on a super tight budget (my husband was already complaining for how much a spent on my last party). One of my favorite decorations, was made from table cloths (https://www.pinterest.com/pin/525443481502594717/). This is such a fun way to add color and dimension to any party space. I made some that were short to cover windows and some that were long for the photo op and to divide the party space from the bathroom and bedrooms.
One of the most fun things you can do with a Halloween party is the use of pump
kins. You can use them for a cooler and put ice a drinks in it (https://www.pinterest.com/pin/115334440432846501/) or as a dip holder (https://www.pinterest.com/pin/24206916724191934/). I put queso in a white pumpkin. You can use them as bowls or décor or even as part of games. There are so many fun things to do with pumpkins. The best part is, now I have some cute uncarved pumpkins that I am going to use as décor for Thanksgiving.
I think everyone had a fun time at the party. The key to a good party is always the people. Once the guest list is made and the invites go out- I focus on all the details. These are the things that made the party festive and fun. It was a successful Halloween party, especially for being the first one I have hosted.
